With reference to your letter of 8th July, enclosing a copy of a despatch by Secretary of State to the Colonies of the 18th July, I have the honor to inform you that I addressed a communication to the Colonial Government dated 17th September (copy enclosed) in which I asked the Colonial Government whether they were prepared to make further payments on account of the Colonial Defence Contribution up to the amount of £16,000 calculated at the market rate of exchange.
The reply to this letter is dated 22nd September (copy enclosed). In it His Excellency the Officer
